An Invitation to Take Part in a New Working Method to Invoke the 72 Angelic Names

My first experience with the Shem HaMephorash, the 72 Divine Names, was based largely upon the speculations of Samuel L. Mathers (1854-1918). Like most Pupils, I wondered at the Zodiacal system of correspondence he used to determine the nature and power of the 72 Angelic presences described. At the time, 30 some years ago now, there was not a lot of information available to either justify or explain the background and origin of the 72 Divine Names.

What you could find out is that these three lettered Divine Names were decoded from three verses in Exodus describing the parting of the Sea of Reeds allowing the final escape of the Israelites from Egypt. And since 72 divides into the 360 degrees of a circle five times, one could fit all the Names into the 72 five-degree arcs of the celestial Zodiac. Beyond these facts it was difficult to discover any documentation regarding the set of two letter suffixes used to create an Angelic Name or the method of determining the astrological attributes to describe an Angel’s power.

In 2003 Yehuda Berg published The 72 Names of God, describing the Shem HaMephorash as a “Technology for the Soul”, writing: “(The 72 Names) Provides us with a vehicle to connect with the Spiritual Current that flows throughout realty.” This work did give a more comprehensive explanation of each Name’s purpose suggesting that Shem HaMephorash is a system of Soul development.

In 2010 I met several Initiates from the Fraternity of the Golden Circle based in Guadalajara, Mexico and have maintained relations with this Order ever since. They shared with me a unique way of working with the 72 Names. Since a circle may be divided by 72 into five equal parts (or arcs) the form of a Pentagram is produced.

By placing the Pentagram within a circle containing the 72 Names (the Zodiac for example) it becomes a sort of geometric ‘Key’ one may use to reveal hidden relationships between any five Names the points of the Pentagram will touch as it rotates. This creates a list of 72 five-part Name formulas to work with. (a PDF chart of these formulas has been made available for down-load) Since the Pentagram relates to us, or the Human constitution, as a symbol of Microcosmos and co-ordinates formulas of these Divine Names, we now have the basis to construct various meditative and ritualistic ways of gaining a deeper realization of what the Shem HaMephorash is all about.

For over 20 years I have been designing and producing study materials (graphics, diagrams, exercises and so forth) to assist me as a pupil of the Great Work. To gain a deeper insight into this Soul technology, I first developed a style for the Hebrew letters to make them look as if they were glowing or made of light. The hues of the letters are taken from the four colour scales used by the Golden Dawn.

Next came a set of 72 cards having the Names spelled with these glowing letters which float upon a jet-black background. The idea of this design is to facilitate the Scrying of a Name allowing one to connect with it directly. On the back of each card is a short inspirational text with the number of the Name and a description of its power or virtue.

Regarding the creation of these cards the corresponding GD colour scales for each letter is applied so that by degrees of a vertical gradient: Atzilut/King colors at the top, then B’riah/Queen, Yetzirah/Knight and at the bottom Assiah/Page-Princess colors. Thus, in one set of letters is witnessed the out-flowing of power from the Source of vitality to actualization for each of the 22 letters.

Next step was to design a pentagram graphic (13 by 19 inches in size) to be used for the placement of the Name cards. The cards themselves are two and a half by five inches in size, small enough to fit next to each point. The pentagrammic diagram incorporates the symbolism of the Elements, the Cabbalistic Eternities, the Pentagrammaton of Yeheshuah and also relates to the Grades of the First Order work. In order to have a clearer idea of the energetic flow of consciousness, the various sections of the Star’s arms are labeled with the Hebrew names of the Sephirot. This correlation is based upon an Inner Order diagram used in the Whare Ra Temple of the Golden Dawn.

In total the Name cards together with the Pentagram graphic will form a meditation mandala somewhat like a Tarot spread. Herein we can see the ‘Beauty’ of this technique as a practical application of the Shem HaMephorash to the Greater Mystery work of an Adept. There is a second PDF down-load available which are the instructions for use of this Technique with more details including an example showing how to read the cards featuring Name number five, Healing.

Personal Reflections

Like most aspirants, I felt that I possessed  a good understanding of “body” and a fair one regarding “spirit.” “soul”, on the other hand (for me), was vague, remote and nebulous. It is not “body” and doesn’t seem to be exactly like “spirit”. Is it both or that which interconnects them? All this was on my long list of ‘why’ and ‘what’ questions which brought me to the Western Path in the first place. After several years of reading books and ritualistic instruction I discovered that what passes (generally) for the Western Tradition today isn’t any more enlightening regarding the nature and structure of the Soul than my own speculations and meditation.

I think (and feel) most of us would like a method for unveiling these Mysteries of Soul in a way that allows one to have the confirmation of first-hand experience. Even better, to have the control over your approach and the freedom of assembling the sequence of study to suit one’s needs. Finally, that the system itself, over time, would build a coherent, interwoven ‘super-structure’ giving one a complete understanding of what the Soul is and does.

The Pentagram Technique is designed to fulfill these requirements. More than just a way of formulating Archangelic presences, the Shem HaMephorash is a complete process for Soul development and perfection. A simple key to unlock the treasures of Divine Wisdom, a gift from the Inner School. I am simply the instrument for its expression.

Biographical Background of Dan Moore:

I am a “Yankee” who was born in 1954 and from a small town in Michigan. My family moved to Southern California some five years later where I have resided ever since. My parents while being raised Christian were independent thinkers and not church goes. My mother possessed certain sensitivities while my father had an open mind toward the world of paranormal experience eventually discovering he had certain psychic talents of his own.

Traditional, exoteric Christian doctrine did not satisfy my Spiritual Hunger. As every ‘Seeker’ has done, I went on a quest to discover what I believed and why. From that beginning I most strongly resonated with the Hermetic Cabalah in general and its Rosicrucian approach in particular. Now I have been a pupil upon the Way of Return since 1971. Seven years later I had my first conscious connection with the Inner School.

In 1987, I sought and was granted initiation into the practical work within an order also having connections to the Inner School. From the turn of the millennium till now, I have explored ways and methods of realizing our latent potentials and inherent Divinity, within the Western Tradition, that are simple, direct and comprehensible by anyone from Neophyte to Adept. Along the way I have met many beautiful Souls and had wonderfully marvelous experiences. As a prominent female Adept once remarked, the Path is a “Great Adventure!”
